The Rikaz for Development and Education Association recently hosted a special ceremony in Shheim to honor Sheikh Said Youssef Fawaz, the representative of Dar Al-Fatwa in Canada and director of the Islamic Cultural Center in Montreal. The event, held at the Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Mosque, brought together local leaders and community members to celebrate his lifelong commitment to humanitarian work.
The ceremony opened with Quranic recitations, followed by the Lebanese national anthem and a welcome speech by Mohammed Fawaz. He emphasized the importance of education as the foundation for the people of the Chouf region. The event also featured a video showcasing Rikaz‘s ongoing efforts in sustainable development and education.
Daniel Beyh, Vice President of Rikaz, spoke about Sheikh Fawaz’s influence, highlighting his role as a symbol of dedication and humanity in Lebanon and beyond. He praised Fawaz’s work and the alignment of Rikaz’s mission with his values.
Sheikh Fawaz expressed his gratitude for the recognition, reflecting on his 50 years of service. He shared his pride in his connection to Shheim and his efforts in Canada, particularly his work after the Quebec mosque shooting and his ongoing support for the Palestinian cause.
The ceremony concluded with a symbolic gift presented to Sheikh Fawaz, recognizing his impactful work. Mohammad Hamiyeh, director of the Shheim Region Care and Development Center, expressed appreciation for his dedication to humanitarian causes.
Rikaz continues to build on the legacy of individuals like Sheikh Fawaz, focusing on education, sustainable development, and community empowerment in Lebanon.
